Pivot!
Sometimes, the plans and dreams we have for our lives get taken away from us. A little like that proverbial rug so solidly beneath our feet that gets yanked right out from underneath us, leaving us tumbling to the ground in its wake.
Anyone who’s experienced a severe injury or otherwise found themself unable to work in the career they feel called to can relate to the feelings of hopelessness and perhaps question their very sense of purpose and worth!
Heck, even retirement can cause this type of existential crisis!
In many cases, sometimes getting your life back on track again comes with finding a new purpose, which means learning to dream differently.
It starts with evaluating your current situation, then creating and deciding on new goals – those are your new dreams!
We all have the potential to reach the goals we set out, but finding a direction is challenging when we sometimes have a very set point of view. Here are five things that you can do to open up your mind:
- Expose yourself to different ways of living. Open your mind to new perspectives, lifestyles, and people who may think differently than you. Understand that the possibilities go way beyond what feels comfortable right now.
- Build a like-minded community. Surround yourself with people who share your big dream goals (but perhaps have a different approach to achieving them). Together, you can create an environment that nurtures growth and ambition.
- Silence your inner critic. Don’t be afraid of failure – it’s nothing but a learning experience. Sometimes, your biggest enemy is your own brain.
- Brainstorm new ideas with those around you. When you share your vision, ask questions, and take in other unique perspectives, you’ll open up a world of possibilities for reaching your goals. But you’ll never see this if you don’t talk about it!
- Take action through experimentation. A successful journey begins by getting out of your comfort zone and testing different strategies until you find the right fit.
So if you feel stuck, take this opportunity to start thinking outside the box and consider how you can make life changes work for you. With gumption, dedication, motivation, and support from those around us – there’s no goal you can’t reach!
One thing you can do to make these transitions easier is plan for them. I’m talking about your finances! After all, life plans are easier to manifest when you have the funds to pay for them.
