Don’t forget your slice of pie!

One of the biggest parts of taking on a new job is considering the compensation package.

I’m not just talking about your paycheck – what about benefits?

Benefits are essential and with good reason. The average American wants to avoid high medical bills and increasing costs, especially if the wage for the position is just ‘so-so.’

The thing is, we often don’t make the most of our benefits, which is like leaving a restaurant after a nice steak dinner and forgetting about the slice of pie for dessert.

The big question I’ll ask you is, “Do you know what your work benefits really include?”

Beyond the basic medical and prescription benefits, your work benefits might include…

● child care assistance

● elder care assistance

● dental and vision care

● mental health services

● fitness and wellness programs

● fertility and adoption assistance

Not sure if you have any of this available to you? The first step is getting in touch with your HR department. They can give you a copy of your benefits enrollment guide that will show you what you are entitled to and will list all available resources.

(You might also be able to access this information through your employer’s online HR portal.)

While not every employee will have access to the same benefits, it can’t hurt to ask your coworkers how they use their lesser-known benefits (a common one is company discounts at local businesses – all you have to do is show your company ID card or business card!).

There’s no sense in letting something go to waste!
